Default Use of Van's FPS (Flap Positioning System)

Marc,
I see in an older post where you said not to use the Van's Flap positioner, to use the Ray Allen sensor to interface with your unit. As I already have a Van's FPS is there a configuration that will work with the VP-200?

You can not use the two flap motor wires on the Control Unit, and instead use a 10A pin and then wire the flap motor and flap switch off that conventionally. You will then use the FPS to set the intermediate stops.

You can still wire the Ray Allen POS-12 to get the position indicator.

However, I recommend selling or returning the FPS and wiring the flaps to the VP.

Here is what you will not have using the FPS:
- flap backup controls on the display
- flap disable above Vfe
- slower flap retraction at go around or missed
- flap motor run-on protection (disables flap motor after x seconds of operation)
- detailed flap fault annunciators
- choice of momentary operation or intermediate position settings
- simple configuration of intermediate stops in setup menus
- co-pilot flap switch disconnect feature
- auto flap disable when conflicting inputs are received
- flap movement indicator

Note that many but not not all these features are implemented today, but are on the road map.

Marc,

The manual states that if a POS-12 is installed, you have a choice of having the flaps move while the switch is activated or move to specific stops.

On page 72 of the installation manual it states that there is an up and down limit, as well as a A and B mid-point limit.

Am I intrepreting this correctly that this will allow the configuration for four flap positions?

Can you elaborate on how the mid-points are configured? I see in the illustration in 8.1f i has a value of 80, with an up limit of 112. What are these values?

Also, the flap position icon in this illustration does have four visible positions. However, on Page 6 of the Ops Manual shows a flap indicator with only three positions. Is this configuration driven based upon whether or not both A and B mid-points are defined?

My Tech Counselor wasn't familiar with your products and I started getting all kinds of "what if" questions from him. The RV-10 has four flap positions that I would like to preset. Because of the questions, I started diving through the manuals to get the specific responses for his next visit.

thanks,

bob

Yes, you can set 4 positions. You must set an up and down, and the two intermediate positions are optional.

The system measures the trim and flap positions by reading the voltage on the feedback pin coming from the position sensor. The system converts this voltage to a numerical value ranging from 0 to 255. So as the trim or flaps move, this value changes to reflect the actual position. This value must be calibrated in the setup menus to reflect the specifics of your installation. The value is displayed in the setup menus on the trim setup page.
