Default Modifying Ray Allen Trim Switch

This describes how to modify the Ray Allen trim switch so it works with the VP trim system. The purpose is to change it to an SPDT (on)-off-(on) switch. This should take about 10 to 20 minutes.

Unscrew the four screws on the back.

Slide the switches out from the housing.

Clip the white wire on a COM 1 terminal on one of the switches to 2 1/4 inches long. Leave the other white wire on the COM 1 on the other switch as is.

ON the switch that has the white/red wire on the NO 3 terminal:
- clip the short white/black wire that is attached to the NC 2 terminal. Clip it on the other end of the wire and discard.
- clip the short white/red wire

Using a soldering iron, remove the other end of the short white/red wire from the NO 3 terminal on the other switch.

Using a soldering iron, move the long white/black wire from the NC 2 terminal to the NO 3 terminal.

Solder the short white wire (from earlier) to the COM 1 terminal on the other switch. The short white wire then connects the COM 1 terminals on both switches.

Default Part II

You should now have the following:
- a long white wire and a short white wire soldered on one of the COM 1 terminals. The short white wire goes to the other COM 1 terminal.
- NO 3 has a long white/black wire attached
- NO 3 on the other switch has a long white/red attached.
- the NC 2 terminals are not populated.

Carefully re-align the switches and slide back into the housing, run the three wires through the back housing, and secure the housing with 4 screws. Verify the switch operates correctly both mechanically and electrically.

The white wire goes to ground, and the white/black and white/red go to the trim switch inputs. When a switch is pressed, the white/colored wire should be grounded.
